Sometimes we have a guy on the trail spotting where the wheels go to stop somebody from hitting something and breaking their steering or something else important in the front end. He is only a distraction if he puts both palms up. By then, you probably are ready to quit anyway. It is confidence inspiring to have a competent trail boss looking at your line and telling you to keep going.

Pretty cool, but why is the guy standing in the middle of the trail directing traffic? Isn't it obvious that they are supposed to go up the hill? He looks like he would be more of a distraction to the drivers than anything. Get the hell off the trail!
