How can it make sense that the Government can break laws for national security, but why cant the people break laws for personal security. My neighbor hates me and always threatens to kill me, so I blow him and his family up and take his stuff. Sounds just like what the US is doing around the world. How do they expect us to accept what they are doing in our name.

And yet the internet has fueled the biggest influx of awareness and education, let alone "people power" in recent history so... the good comes with the bad. It wasn't DESIGNED to be a surveillance tool so throw out that conspiratorial thinking, it's just a convenient opportunity for governments at this particular juncture in time.

That's why i don't use facebook, twitter, post pics, or anything involving social network. The internet is great, but it's one massive spying tool. It's obvious that it was intended to do so over time. Well played on their part....

The unique id can't be transfered without an operating system (uefi might be able to in the future, however). If you use an operating system like Windows or Apple, which are very locked down, then chances are, it is being used to track you without your consent. On the other hand, if you are using free open source operating systems (TAILS included, which is Debian based), then you can be quite sure that nothing is being transfered. If you have doubts, check the source code, it is available.
