The Severn Valley Railway's Autumn Steam Gala 2010 celebrated the line's 40 Years of Steam, so added something extra to 'The UKs Premier Steam Event', the only gala that see's trains run for around 58hrs continuously from Friday morning to Sunday evening, through two nights. Just like the Spring Gala, some ex locos returned.
The engine that hauled the very first public service on 23rd May 1970, GWR 'Collett Goods' number 3205, returned to the railway to mark the occasion, alongside - 3717 'City of Truro' (who was overhauled at the railway for the GWR150 celebrations and painted BR Black on one side!), 'Small Prairie number 5542 (partly restored from Barry scrapyard condition at Bridgnorth), 5690 'Leander' (owned by the SVR from 1983 to 1989, who also worked the first passenger train into Kidderminster Town in 1984) and 34070 'Manston' (replacement for 70000 'Britannia' as they are similar). Full 13 locomotive line up --

The SVR were once again able to pair up engines with matching stock, the highlights being 'Truro' on some GWR coaches and 'Leander' on the Stainer Period LMS rake. 3205 saw use with the GWR coaches as well as a two maroon Mark 1 local set. 5542 saw use on the SVR's brilliantly turned out Great Western Goods train mostly, in contrast to 'Manston' who was hauling the blood & custard liveried Mark 1 rake. The homefleet mainly stayed with matching stock, including the 'Manors' on the Maroon Mark 1s.
My day included company with GJDobbzy, GWRDec, jakeyboygen, theonlyadsrulz and I did see jamielw143 twice.
The trains GJDobbzy and I rode were --
0820 Kidderminster to Hampton Loade with 5764
1118 Hampton Loade to Arley with 5764
1244 Arley to Bewdley with 34070
1551 Bewdley to Highley with 5690
1758 Highley to Kidderminster with 7812 (and 7802 piloting from Bewdley)
(I didn't make it to Bridgnorth as I went Sunday also -- video coming shortly)
All in all it was an enjoyable gala with great weather and great train combos, happy 40th anniversary to the SVR!
Fantastic shots! Been to this railway a few times. My favourite one! :)
