9/11 & The Death Penalty

Two questions for you...

1: Should the 6 defendants about to be tried receive a military or civil trial?

2: If convicted, should these men receive the death penalty or life in prison without parole?

I can't answer the first question, I have no idea. As to the second I'd say no, they should spend the rest of their lives in prison, not to stop them being martyrs, but because death is the easier option. They should have to live with the consequnces, not be allowed to escape them. I also have very mixed feelings about the death penalty. Is murder wrong in all circumstances? Whole other topic.

Yeah...I wish I had worded the video differently. I am a death penalty opponent and I didn't express that but instead mentioned only their being martyrs.

I don't care, just as long as they get the death penalty. Military/civil court doesn't matter.

I distrust the US Government (which is my own). I think we have done some despicable things around the world that has asked for the extreme hate. Not to mention our blatant hypocrisy when dealing with the world. Media likes the sensationalize and will all hold a lie together. I agree with you on Martyr. Prison for life, no bail... maybe. Yet death would only fuel the fire and they would make a media circus like they did Husein's hanging!

I don't trust the US Govt. worth a particle of sawdust. This will be a propaganda show (kangaroo court) in the finest tradition of Islamic justice in the middle east. It's to influence the populace.

If I had the power to do so, I would obliterate Gitmo; it would utterly vanish from the face of the planet. I'm fucking white-hot furious ENRAGED.

For starters, the very existence of Gitmo raises serious moral and ethical questions, as does the phrase "enemy combatant".

And the concept that so many have been held in Gitmo for so long, and most certainly tortured... and this leads to six "trials", or "military tribunals"?

9/11 itself has many unanswered questions. 1) False, misleading, inflammatory video was shown on TV. 2) The 9/11 Commission was a joke, especially in terms of funding.

Civil courts and no death penatly.

Civil courts because as far as I can see there not part of any recognised lawful army.

And no to the death penatly because:

1) I doubt the case is as fair as they say it will be.

2) It'll make them martyrs and it's probably the outcome they want anyway. Jail until they die of natural causes.

Hey Grumpy, the problem is that Im not really even sure that these 6 had ANYTHING to do with 9/11. The way I see it, this is just another tactic to get the right wing fired up with nationalism and indirectly motivating them to support WHOEVER gets to become the Republican candidate. Do you trust our government? I don't.

I for one don't think they can receive a "fair trial" as the US continually hides behinds "State Secrets." I would rather see these men tried in The Hague.

The Death Penalty is a tough call, because I hate the idea of Life in Prison, as it seems we become baby sitters and waste our financial resources on people who will never rehabilitate.
