Timmy's Raised Turtle Pond Video #3. In this episode I show off my new Laguna Pressure-Flo 1400 filter. This filter has a built in UV light that kills all those single celled suspended algae. In just 5 days my pond water when from pea soup green to crystal clear! Amazing!

notes: this is a video of the filter using brand-new foams. Overtime, the foam becomes deeply permeated with pond gunk.. This requires removing the foam pieces and squeezing them by hand underwater to clean them out manually. I suppose the more you use the backwash function, the less you have to manually clean.
I am mostly satisfied with this filter. Eventually, you have to buy new foams (I buy them on eBay). In a tropical climate w/ a pond overloaded with fish and turtles, with little plants, biowaste can accumulate quite quickly. Thus, I end up manually cleaning the filter at least once a month.

I saw another brand of pressure filter in which the mechanism involved pulling a handle upwards, which would compress a stack of foam inside (effectively squeezing them inside the filter vessel). I think this might be more effective than the Laguna pressure flo, as the Laguna only scrapes the foam pieces.

  • Do you need a cover to protect your turtles from raccoons.

  • @shatterstarbox there are no raccoons in hawaii--or many other city predators for that matter.

  • it goes from 1:21 to 5:13

  • is the green water normal or bad

  • @timmyng531 0:12 to 5:57 for water B&A

  • do you ever have problems with your turtles eating your fish??

  • Good job showing how effective the laguna filter is. I bought the 3200 filter and pump combo sold in a kit (It should arrive this week). I look forward to clean water!... after 10 years of depending on plants and the waterfall feature to keep my pond clear. The Laguna 3200 filter and pump cost... $471 free shipping and no tax. Now I must get rid of that Heron that eats.... or kills my fish, while trying to eat them.
