The smokefree coalition in New Albany, Indiana hosted a news conference yesterday --August 20, 2008 -- to call on members of the New Albany City Council to adopt a comprehensive smokefree workplace law that protects ALL workers from health harm caused by on-the-job exposure to secondhand smoke.
Council members have the chance at tonight's hearing to adopt a comprehensive smokefree law that will improve lives and reduce health care costs.
The smoke free movement that infringes on the rights of private businesses will one day go down as a big fraud in history, the way alcohol prohibition did long ago. It's one thing for smoking to be banned in truly public places like government buildings, but goes too far for privately owned businesses freely choosing to be smoking establishments. How the heck does this newscast stupidly assume all asthma attacks are caused by smoking?
Kudos to New Albany's mayor for vetoing this proposal!
