Republican activists Nicholas Romero and Meridith Turney argue that a re-emphasis on "conservative principles" is necessary to improve the Party's reputation with disillusioned voters.

-------

The burgeoning neoconservative movement in the U.S. these days has the potential to either split the Republican Party in two or launch it into a new era, say some people. Having lost control of both the House and the Senate in the last election, the Republican Party needs to reassess its image and values to broaden its appeal to voters, according to some. Should the Party reinvent itself, or instead re-energize around its core values? Come hear GOP elected officials discuss the issues facing the party and their visions for its future - The Commonwealth Club of California

Nicholas Romero is the managing editor of the FlashReport and a staffer for California State Assemblyman Michael D. Duvall (R-Yorba Linda). Prior to this, he was the Vice President of Production for Bieber Communications, a direct marketing company that does business all over the country. He has earned his way through the years as a freelance writer, a public affairs representative for members of the rental-housing industry in Orange County, and a staffer for Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R-Irvine). He has also worked on or volunteered for several political campaigns, from school board to statewide races.

Meredith Turney currently serves as the Legislative Liaison for California's premiere pro-family public policy organization, Capitol Resource Family Impact.Active in the California Republican Party since fifteen, Meredith worked on numerous local campaigns in Orange County, California . After attending the Republican National Convention as a youth delegate at sixteen, Meredith commenced an internship with Congressman Christopher Cox and then worked for California Assembly Republican Leader Scott Baugh.

  • Even if you're not a Republican, you have to admit that this would be an improvement.

What we have now is the party that Reagan built. His courting the religious right was a deal with the devil, so to speak. They've taken over and all that Republicans now stand for now is authoritarian cultural combat--against gays, atheists, scientists and the world. (Hell, against reality itself.) To hell with the economics. To hell with the constitution.

Please, please, PLEASE just give us some Goldwater!

  • A message from Democrats: Republicans, please go back to your principles and let Nick Romero be your spokesperson!

  • I voted nearly 100% Republican from '80 thru '04. Last time I voted nearly 100% Democrat. In a nutshell: I'd rather pay higher taxes and be otherwise left alone than have Republican Religious Police making sure everyone is "moral."

  • please talk about conservative principles with your representative Michael D. Duvall, and with so many other republican sex scandals this year, your party's values and priorities are obviously skewed. basic human values of taking care of each other and family values should be revisited by the republican party. what happened to real Christians who wanted to help their neighbors, to take care of the poor.. i thought the republicans were representing real Christians. fiscal responsibility my butt

  • he brought up katrina what an asshole, and how we shouldn't help them with money.. i don't care if they're black or white.. if they went through that.. i think 1000 dollars to help them get back on their feet is the least we can do to take care of each other. this is the problem with the republicans, fiscal conservatism means: they are materialistic, not willing to give any part of their materialistic lives to improve the lives of others.. and it shows it here.. speaking abilities w/no brain

  • I hear yah.

  • the problem with this "republican principles" deal is that no one, apparently knows how to articulate what they actually are. Like with that little pre-teen speaker at CPAK saying "return to principles, values, values," without being able to actually expound on what they are. Maybe, as far as they know, these guys are already following republican principles. You need to actually define your principles instead of just negatively defining them against what you think liberal principles are.

  • I will speak the truth on this video; People are too stupid for democracy to work, A creating being probably exists but the concept of the Christian God is utterly ridiculous and completely imaginary, and circumstance decides outcome not talent.
