Earlier they said if a child is beaten it means they are loved. Wendla has never been beaten so she believes that her mother doesn't love her. She wants to feel love as well as empathize with her friend

I don't get where u guys get the idea that she likes the pain. She had never been beaten or physically punished therefore she never knew what it is like. She says "nothing" cuz she wants to feel more and make sure she doesn't feel numb. Not that she likes it :/

@Glee4EVA1000 shes a sudo-maschist. she likes the feeling of pain but I personally also believe she wants to be able to emphathize with her friend Marta. she says earlier in this scene that shes never been beaten and she's "never felt anything" like her mother has kind of put her in a box for her entire life and she doesn't know what it is to feel any physical pain or physical sensation of any sort really. completely my opinion however ^^

@Glee4EVA1000 Her mother has kept her sheltered for her entire life, so she has never felt anything unpleasant. So when her friend, Martha, informs her that her father beats her, she is so taken aback and unfamiliar with the subject that she asks Melchior to help her experience what Martha is feeling.
