  • I really want to get lead chops for my studio jazz band. you have a great sound and your attacks in the upper register are fantastic. how do you practice?

  • @trumpetdudeman07 Thanks man...It's kinda hard to talk about details in a small post on here, but most of my practice is focused on efficiency.

  • If you don't mind me asking the forbidden question, what kind of gear are you playing? I realize it's usually bush league to ask... but Wayne Bergeron would tell you, lead is different :D

  • @KrummyBear lol...it's all good. Wayne's right, and the horn is actually the Bergeron model Kanstul and mouthpiece is a GR Technologies 65S...deeper than most people's lead pieces because I bottom out in anything shallower.

  • thats amazing thanks for taking the time to hip us up on that

  • @The1snarky No prob and thanks!

  • Dan, this is a great idea. I want to encourage you to keep doing this.

A lead trumpet cam. I can't imagine anything better--so long as the player is as accomplished as you.

Seriously, I'm a fan. Young players can learn a lot from this sort of thing.

  • they should also do a One O'clock Bass Trombone Cam haha

  • @dfjazzzzz Very cool. I'm playing all Shew stuff... Shew Zhorn, shew lead... Shew. It's got fairly decent sound, but low range is definitely lacking, and it cuts off pretty hard anything above a G :S ... I want something with a deeper cup, but with a fairly round rim.

  • @GBUKMilo Thanks! The more relaxed you can get, the easier it becomes! :)

  • @stutzand21 It's different than the Curnow version...and a lot harder! I like both equally, but this one's closer to the heart for me since it's a collaboration between my friend Kevin Swaim and Lyle Mays (Metheny's pianist and composer of the original) that was done especially for this concert where Lyle guest soloed, came to sectionals, and hung out. Definitely one of the coolest experiences...especially when he schooled me at pool...that's another story. :)

  • definitely not as cool as the curnow

  • Very interesting, great playing. Interesting to see you very relaxed in the hands and arms. Pro stuff.
