the Suez crisis was a war fought on Egyptian territory in 1956. The conflict pitted Egypt against Israel, the United Kingdom, and France.
During the British colonial era, the Suez Canal had been important in the Middle East, as well as for the penetration of Africa and in maintaining control of India. For this reason the British considered it important to keep the canal out of Egyptian control.

I bet he is one of those so called Irish Americans!
France spent a huge amount of money building the canal and Britain used it a lot. I am sure there were plenty of Legal docs etc and lease agreements etc.
Nasser was annoyed because Britain stopped funding the aswan dam, so decided that he would break these agreements. You could say Nasser brought it upon the Egyptian people (met a few an they are very nice people). Its all in the past..

I have no intention of ever visiting your damp islands. In fact, I hope to one day be on the "banned from Britain" list.. I hate your fucking country. I hate your monarchy. I hate your religion. The British are my inherited enemy. Hatred of the British and especially the English has been passed down generation through generation on the Scotts-Irish side of my family, and I fully intend to pass this hatred on to the next generation. We are enemies, and always will be.

Good thing the "volunteers" from the Soviet Union and Red China didn't arrive. With experiences such as Stalingrad and North Korea, the post WWII Western powers, eager to get back to materialistic decadence might have gotten a serious spanking. Jihad would have been declared to call all Muslims and anti-colonial Communists to the region to fight the enemies of humanity.
