  • The first TV station in Miami was WTVJ, originally on channel 4 and starting-up in 1949.

WCKT/WSVN was the second VHF in Miami; there had been a couple of UHF's in the area that went off the air not long after WCKT started-up.

The station was an NBC affiliate until NBC purchased a rival Miami station in 1988.

  • wow, this is really great footage to watch and great to know that history is being preserved for future generations to watch how much America has changed.

It is interesting to note that WCKT (WSVN) also worked with the FBI in creating

Right winged programs aimed at misinforming viewers about the War in Vietnam,

Race issues in the US and poverty. The Freedom of Information Act made these documents available sometime back. It's online..

  • It's ironic that they go from "The Whispered Menace" about gays to the George Foster Peabody award, which bears the inscription "Lover of Men". LOL.

  • M.T. Graves was WCKT`s best.

  • And also...who would've thunk that they'd do a program called "The Whispered Menace" which seems homophobic based off of its description, yet is now home of Belkys Nerey, Louis Aguirre, and Deco Drive (I could be wrong about their sexual orientation but...they don't seem straight, not that theres anything wrong with that)

  • And to think, that tiny desk and those heavy stage curtains, became what we know today as the NEWSPLEX
