Man, I love these old TV sets! I want to make a tube tv one day, even if they all go digital by now - just for the experience alone...there's just something magical about it , I can't really explain!

I didn't even think they had color TV's in the 50's.

@justwolfslife I went to the UK and I did notice a flicker on the TVs, didn't think more about it till you mentioned it

Down side of owning a color tv in the 50,s was that most broadcasts were transmitted in black and white. 10 years later is when color tv,s were less exspendsive and perfected.
Flesh tones were less orange and red colors were more true.

I well remember march 20th,1966, because that was the day, we got our first color tv! Back then, that WAS a very big deal! And it was one with a round tube like this one.

What did a color tv in the 1950's cost in today's dollars? I'm sure it must have been a very expensive item--similar to a home entertainment system today.

WHAT a GORGEOUS SET!! I restore these for a living & you, Sir have one FINE example of an EARLY color TV! Congratulations! ;) PS if u ever need any knobs, tubes or parts, let me know...I have tons!
The oval-ish screen depends on the picture tube manufactoring process. It was easier to produce a roundscreen tube than a rectangular colour picture tube. The first commercial rectangular colour picture tubes came in 1964. This colour tv set here is from 1956.

This is a low-hour CRT. The set was only used for color tests in Montreal, Canada, in the 1950s.
