crescent moon, crescent venus

i took video of the moon and venus last night to show how they were in similar phases.

thanks to skyviewcafe at http://www.skyviewcafe.com for the software that let me show the orbital positions.

although i didn't mention it in the video, this will only apply for 2007. around august 17 is when venus will pass through inferior conjunction and be only 43 million km from earth.

Great video. The fact that Venus shows a crescent phase was partly proof to early astronomers that the earth revolves around the sun. It was cool to see it on the video here.

thanks! and thanks for pointing that out -- yes, it was one of galileo's five observations that got him in trouble with the church. it's also the strongest observation of his for disproving geocentric models of the solar system.
