Nigah-e-Faqr main shan-e-sikandari kya hai
What is the worth of kingdom in eyes of a saint?
Khiraj ki jo gada ho, wo qeseri kya hai
Such a rule in which ruler is always worried about keeping it secure, is worthless
Falaq ne un ko ata ki hai khwaajgi ke jinhain
Nature has awarded ruling to those
Khabar nahin rawish-e-banda parwari kya hai?
who don't have sense of serving humanity
Nigah-e-faqr main shaan-e-sikandari kya hai?
What is the worth of kingdom in eyes of a saint?
Faqat Nigah se hota hai Faisla dil ka
Only sight decides about the destiny of heart
Na ho Nigah mein shokhi, to dilbari kya hai
If sight has no enthrallment, love is worthless
Nigah-e-faqr main shaan-e-sikandari kya hai?
What is the worth of kingdom in eyes of a saint?
Kissey nahin hai tamanna-e-sarwari lekin
There is no one who doesn't have desire of ruling?
Khudi ki mout ho jis main, wo sarwari kya hai?
Such ruling which self respect is required to be sacrificed has no value
Buton say tujh ko umeedain, Khuda say no meedi
You have Expectations from idols (referring to fellow human beings here) Mujhey bata tou sahi aur kaafri kya hai?
Then what is skepticism

I've tried my best to give correct translation of this poetic work of Iqbal

نگاہ فقر میں شان سکندری کیا ہے
خراج کی جو گدا ہو ، وہ قیصری کیا ہے!

بتوں سے تجھ کو امیدیں ، خدا سے نومیدی
مجھے بتا تو سہی اور کافری کیا ہے!

فلک نے ان کو عطا کی ہے خواجگی کہ جنھیں
خبر نہیں روش بندہ پروری کیا ہے

فقط نگاہ سے ہوتا ہے فیصلہ دل کا
نہ ہو نگاہ میں شوخی تو دلبری کیا ہے

اسی خطا سے عتاب ملوک ہے مجھ پر
کہ جانتا ہوں مآل سکندری کیا ہے

کسے نہیں ہے تمنائے سروری ، لیکن
خودی کی موت ہو جس میں وہ سروری کیا ہے!

خوش آگئی ہے جہاں کو قلندری میری
وگرنہ شعر مرا کیا ہے ، شاعری کیا ہے!
