Baptist preacher said in 05 he never met a born again believer who committed fornication ie fell then his best friend who is a Baptist preacher commits fornication with choir member. Question is was the friend ever saved or did he fall
@nepistepa The possibility of "falling" (i.e. backsliding and never returning) always exists. Let me ask you this: are you sure you won't commit suicide? You may say 'yes' but it is certaintly possible that you may end your life. Are you following me?
@JohnDowneyWilson In your second reply to my question, you wrote, "You speak of being 'sure' as if it is not YOU who would make the decision to live a life of rebellion." In my example, I speak of one person's surety in present and future times, not the surety of two separate people; I speak of the same person being confident of his current state of grace but being unable to be sure that he will not fall from grace in future. Do you believe such a state of affairs is possible?
@nepistepa You speak of being "sure" as if it is not YOU who would make the decision to live a life of rebellion. You can be sure but you have to decided to not jump right in the filth and stay in.Although, I doubt your friend was ever truly saved it IS possible that he decided to reject Christ and so turned to atheism in order to kill his concience and silence the Holy Spirit. It was the only way he could kill his concience.
@JohnDowneyWilson Your statement does not quite answer my question as it does not entirely clarify whether or not you believe that, if you repent & are born of the Spirit into a state of grace & are continuing in such a condition, you can nonetheless never be sure that you will not fall away from grace in the future of your own free will through apostasy as per the example I gave of my friend who turned to atheism & who states that he was previously convinced of his salvation.
@nepistepa Amen its like this :"But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die." Ezekiel 18:24 The Bible is full of passages like the ones you mentioned.
@nepistepa I say that "saved" is synonymous with "save from God's wrath." If you are trusting in Jesus Christ as the sole source for your salvation then you are "safe." If God changed your heart and you were 'born again' by the power of the Holy Spirit then you are a Christian in a state of grace from that moment forward and you can be sure of your salvation. However if you choose to enter a state of rebellion (backslide) you wage war on God and will be destroyed like any other enemy.
@JohnDowneyWilson The key word is inheritance. the word inheritance is not the same as the word salvation. Inheritance is what the prodical son wasted and never regained. The prodicals sonship was secure even after the inheritance was lost. We are joint heirs with Jesus, but our inheritance can be LOST. Children of disobedience defined in Eph 2:2. The things that earns the wrath of God on the lost is the things that will cause us to lose inheritance. IThess1:10- we are safe from that wrath.
@JohnDowneyWilson I Corinthians 15:35-36, But some man will say, how are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? THOU FOOL, that which thou sowest is not quickened , except it die You see, I told you Matt five did not apply to the church in regards to salvation. PAUL used the exact term that matt five says will get you to hell. Paul will not be in hell b/c he has ETERNAL life.
@JohnDowneyWilson You cannot get saved twice. That is clear. There is no second sacrifice. If you can lose it, you cannot get it back. Hebrews 6 makes that clear. So glad I am not a Hebrew.
