I heard Cherkassky play this piece as an encore. He was the last of the great romantic pianists with a heritage going back to Liszt. Sadly this era is past and we only have recordings. Great use of rubato and individuality characterised pianists like him as well as phenomenal technique. His concerts were experiences I will never forget.

@kjw163 Voicing to that degree of playing is very, very difficult as well as being hard to play anytime much less wired before 1500 ears. Just to get the right hand voicing as he does here you'd be damn lucky to find such today that can play the voicing much less then make music and carry that beautiful melody, accompanied often with the left hand. The melody is carried (voiced) constantly by both hands. It's extremely difficult, he just makes it look and sound so easy! His voicing is supreme!!
