Part I - Hull-Oakes Railroad Operation

Hull-Oakes is one of the last steam-powered saw mills in existence and has been in operation since 1938. The mill generates lumber loads on railroad centerbeam cars as well as wood chip loads. Located at the end of the six mile Bailey Branch, switching operations provide an interesting logistical challenge. In 2007, rail service was suspended due to deteriorating conditions of the rails. This video documents the end of that era.

Damn man so sad this railroad is dead seems to me as the cool and historical ones are the ones to die. And since this railroad is Genesee and Wyoming I would think Genesee and Wyoming would do some maintenance to track to continue the railroad but of course some businesses do not understand how to run another business.

I worked for the P&R rr and I operated on this run as a conductor many times. Its a remote control job but they train conductor on this run to. Crazyest run and job i have ever had. Hull oaks has some bad ass old school trucks.

I have always been dreaming of owning the tomahawk railway up in tomahawk, wi. since the railroad is small, revenue is less than $500,000.00 its in a cool area. but its owned by genesee and wyoming and i dont know how they are. better save up some money by workin for bnsf! my fav railroad

Those tracks are pretty bad, only if someone would take the time to refurbish them, its cool that willamete and pacific still operates on the rest of the line they leased, i want my own short line someday.
