The newly reissued original MGM soundtrack features Ava Gardner's beautiful renditions of the two "Showboat" songs. Ava could sing well ------------------- and OMG, she was as gorgeous as Elizabeth Taylor! She was also a much better actress than she was given credit for. If you see Ava Gardner in "The Barefoot Contessa", and then see Liz Taylor in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" ------- it's a dead heat in terms of sheer beauty.

i love this song so much and ava's rendition is touchingly beautiful. she makes me cry every time i see this because it makes me remember two of the most important people in my life both named bill. they passed away a long time ago but they are never forgotten and forever in my heart. thank you for this.

Who cares what her private life was like? Who cares whose voice is being used? She is a movie star and she is beautiful. This voice works better for the image of the movie star. I'm buying are you? Sold.
