Marissa Woodruff and her classmates at Rochester School for the Deaf (RSD), in Rochester, NY, http://www.RSDeaf.org are addressing a problem long confronted by Deaf and Hard of hearing airline passengers, the inability to get information once in flight. They are proposing that airlines add LED Messaging Boards in their planes, like the ones RSD uses in all of its school buildings. The RSD 10th class is starting with one airline, Jet Blue, in hopes that the idea will spread. Soon, a Jet Blue representative will visit RSD to see the students proposal. If successful the change may begin locally with Rochester flights. It is obvious that this simple and fairly inexpensive technology would benefit not only the Deaf and Hard of hearing but all passengers. You can show your support by visiting http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/RSDeaf and signing the students petition.
Actually then can add these messages using the inflight entertainment system when there are seatback monitors. I was on a flight with the inflight map as we were approaching Frankfurt a message popped on the screen and it said"We are about to Land in Frankfurt please fasten your seatbelts and stow your tray tables". After this message the connecting gate information was displayed.

They have closed caption on announcement on TV but depends if they have TV on airplane. But of course, there's another announcement was like "we are about to land, please put belt on" something like that, we can't hear that. But some Deaf people can take their interpreters if they want. But if don't, they could go travel themselves. I think that is a good idea though.

Text messages on LED board, that seems good idea, but most Deaf people have problem to understand english grammars, that depends on who have bad education background, so as you know some deaf people need DI ( Deaf Interpreters) anyway, I think that should teach all stewards to learn ASL in every airplane anywhere in North America ?? Why not video on TV like movie or something so deaf people can watch sign language interpreters to explain safety procdures like replay video on every departures.

It doesn't have to be typed in the message while the person speaking the rules. Can be done in pre-recorded messages.
