I misspoke. the song is called simple gifts. it is still an American standard etc.

the violin part is from an american standard called "tis a gift" it has been used in many different things (tis a gift to be simple tis a gift to be free tis a gift to come down where we ought to be.....) but yes it appeared in river dance and a lot of other stuff as well
