Author Michael Gates Gill discusses his book "How Starbucks Saved My Life" on October 19, 2007 as part of Northeastern University Libraries' Meet the Author Series. Michael Gates Gill used to be a top-ranking advertising executive who enjoyed all the advantages in life until, at age 53, he lost his job, then his family, before being diagnosed with a slow-growing brain tumor. After hitting rock bottom he got a job at Starbucks. Gill had to face the hard facts that he was 63 and working at an hourly paying job with people half his age. He was confronted with his personal prejudices having to do with classism, racism, and ageism. Gill shares his personal transformation to achieving self-acceptance and gaining a renewed sense of purpose through this surprising journey. "How Starbucks Saved My Life" is now being made into a major motion picture starring Tom Hanks. FInd his book in the Library's catalog, NUCAT at CT275.G4163 A3 2007.
