Choir and Orchestra - Written by Charles Wesley - Lyrics included by request:

And can it be that I should gain an interest in the Savior's blood! Died he for me? who caused his pain! For me? who him to death pursued? Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me? Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

'Tis mystery all: th' Immortal dies! Who can explore his strange design? In vain the firstborn seraph tries to sound the depths of love divine. 'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore; let angel minds inquire no more. 'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore; let angel minds inquire no more.

He left his Father's throne above (so free, so infinite his grace!), emptied himself of all but love, and bled for Adam's helpless race. 'Tis mercy all, immense and free, for O my God, it found out me! 'Tis mercy all, immense and free, for O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay, fast bound in sin and nature's night; thine eye diffused a quickening ray; I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; my chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed thee. My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed thee.

No condemnation now I dread; Jesus, and all in him, is mine; alive in him, my living Head, and clothed in righteousness divine, bold I approach th' eternal throne, and claim the crown, through Christ my own. Bold I approach th' eternal throne, and claim the crown, through Christ my own.

  • I think this was a very good arrangement, played by skilful musicians. I gave "thumbs up", but I cannot help but feel that something is missing. I feel like I could listen to some of the more amateur videos of this song far longer than I could sit and listen to this. Perhaps it just became too "traditional" (particularly towards the end) for my liking. Not to say that others won't enjoy it, it's just not me. But as far as technique goes I can't really fault it under the circumstances.

  • Not only do the people look like they have no idea of what they are singing about but this is NOT a choral piece. It is, in effect, a love-song to Jesus. It is meant to be sunfg as a personal acclaimation of what God, through His Son, has done for all mankind and thereby sung with feeling and passion

  • One of my favourite Hymms of all time, Sung so well...

  • @jenchal @jenchal the old-fashioned way? Without any passion? This is a great song, and they're good singers, but for group of people singing about the "amazing love ... that my God should die for me" it would be nice to see a few smiles.

At least those new churches have a bit of joy and gratefulness.

  • awesome!

  • Thank you. When you merge the word of truth with heartfelt passion how can we fail to be lifted.

  • @secretary51 I think it is a Scottish one, from the accents - especially the ladies rolling the "r" in the word "for" (I'm a Jock myself).
