The Darkest Trek score of them all is this particular gem by Cliff Eidelman. The Battle For Peace is an all out action cue, and what is usually mistaken for the Klingon theme is the conspiracy theme which uses a six note motif and has low strings as it plays during the Peace talks between The Federation and Klingon Empire as the final battle between Chang and Kirk. The Six Note Motif is also used as General Chang's theme and his Bird Of Prey which can stay cloaked and fire torpedo's also adopts the theme. The main Klingon theme is a variation of the conspiracy theme, and it appears first in the overture at around 2:08, and it's presented in a most frantic manner. The theme represents the Klingons as a sinister race with their intentions mostly unknown through out the film. It's the darkest theme that the Klingons have ever received, and the brass horns that were used before to represent them have been all but abandoned, and it has been replaced with a strong rhythm forceful and filled with determination. The theme makes an appearance again in the track Surrender For Peace at around the 22 second mark and once again in the final 30 seconds of the track. The Klingon theme makes it's presence known in the final moments of The Battle For Peace with some frantic moments to showcase itself in all it's glory.

  • When we studied Shakespear in High School - it was a year after this movie came out on tape. I did a report and compared Hamlet and this movie - said it was basically Shakespear in space. Teacher agreed and made the class watch it - best lesson in Shakespearish style we ever had - plus great excuse to watch star trek lol!

  • This is the most underrated star trek film. So uniquely written. Lots of action even though most of the central characters are doing everything possible to achieve peace. Spock working methodically to solve the "who done it" mystery aboard the enterprise, a klingon with an eye patch nailed into his skull, and of course, Macoy banter.

    6:00 mark
