Jesus is only way, truth, and life. You don't have life if you don't have Jesus christ. simple

More than a great composer. Like Beethoven , a visionary - but yankee style, he might poke you in the eye.

This man is typical business but atypical genius. He could hold a job .Unheard of for european composers. This man in my book greater than Bolcolm,Sessions,Perle,Copland
,Diamond, LouHarris. All of them.HE had vision unlike any others .Great macho athletic serious music man and he understood the negro plight. HE IS A MIRACLE !!!! -
Ives has to be the most important American composer ever! His music was well ahead of its time and presaged much of latter-20th century music.

I bought that very same recording in that very same year! It had such an impact on me back then, and it has held me ever since.

I've read about Ives and it indicates that Ives was working as an insurance sales agent, which he believes to be the best way to pay his responsibility to his family, and he did made a fortune. He also refuses to choose the only two occupation of learning music in that time - being a teacher or a church musician, he thinks he will be limited if he choose any of them.
Not to be a jerk, but, as great a composer as Copland was, I don't see him in Ives' league. I don't regard Harris as being in the same universe as Ives.
I've heard detractors say that Ives couldn't be a great composer because he wasn't "Influential." I agree with that he didn't found a "school" like Schoenberg, but believe that this is so because Ives was sui generis and a school unto himself.
