"The Man Who Sang Teddy Bear's Picnic" says Val's website. Well, Val actually sang 'Leaning on a Lamp-Post' before George Formby did - about fifteen minutes before, in the Formby film 'Feather Your Nest' (1937)...
Sorry about the picture quality, but for some reason this film hasn't been shown on television, or released on video or DVD. Perhaps if you feel like me, you might like to email Optimum and ask them to do another Formby boxset! info@optimumreleasing.com

  • Thanks for posting! I hope to see Feather Your Nest someday, I can tell that it is more suited for George Formby,

  • Please email Optimum DVD and request that they include it in a second Formby boxset, thanks :)

  • Good old Val Rosing! Always a pleasure to hear!

  • Val Rosing was prolific and made some very good records (though I am not sure this is one of my favorites. You can find Val Rosing's CD at his web site by Googling him. i love his version of St. James Infirmary, Sweet Sue, Try a Little Tenderness and of course, Teddy Bears Picnic.

  • Always looking for new faces on old 78s and this fits the bill nicely ,thanks

P.S Val Rosing made a huge amount of records ,believe me he was very, very good.

  • hey, this is super, i like this version, much classier than Formby and Rosing has a voice.

  • Probably. And you have to remember he was doing it like this as a direct contrast to what Formby's character subsequently did!

  • Before anyone craps on you with downvotes...

I respectfully disagree on an inherent level, although at the same time it's not so much "lifeless" as it is a movie rendition of a song. I believe Val would have done much better were he rendering this on an album.

  • I hate to be such a contrarian,

because I adore this delightful, lilting song,

but I have never heard such a dull, lifeless version

as this one. This whole clip sucks eggs.

  • This is one of my favourite Formby films.
