Bill Elder Fight and 1979 Police Strike.avi

This is the infamous Bill Elder fight that happened during the 1979 police strike in New Orleans. Bill was irritated by a press photgrapher that was crouched over his TV used to monitor our live broadcast. I recorded the event in the big Live truck. Channel 8 was live during the fight. You can hear Lea Stevenson yelling at Bill that they were live.

Actually this marked the first year that there was a increase in nudity at Mardi Gras. There weren't any NOPD officers, just National guard and state police. They only arrested people that were doing violence.

The untimely release was some announcement by Morial about the strike. I don't recall the details.

BTW, who was the guy that Elder got into the scuffle with? I'm guessing, by his N'Awlins accent, he either worked for The Times Picayune or Gambit magazine. Just curious (don't name any names, please)!!!
