  • I am happy you ere able to extend the life of your equipment....I may indeed go back and add the 3mm foam to the face of the LCD as outlined by p26byc as one of my displays is still temperamental....

  • Hey Darren, i have one "donor panel" here on the boat. Printed on the side of the box is " PM-1028A. LCD Panel Meter 9V INDEP"

    CIRCUIT-TEST ELECTRONICS

I bought this locally in Victoria, I am quite sure you should be able to find one in a local Electronic DIY store such a Fry's. There is one in Renton...

These are not special panels and you don't necessarily need to purchase the same one that I did. They all contain the elastomer connectors that will be used for the repair.

  • I know how daunting the other option is...not just the money for new instruments but the time to remove and replace all this networked stuff....I will at sometime do just that...hopefully in a few years from now.

  • Hi Terry Thanks for the video. You mentioned the Supertwist LCD available in UK at Maplin Electronics. Are you saying that this would provide a suitable elastomer connector to do the repair?

Second question: If it proves impossible to locate a suitable elastomer, do you think that an alternative repar by re-attaching the faulty ribbon connector by some means or other is possible?

  • @dbmgreen Do you have any details on this one?

  • @matevzb "Navbus protocol" = NMEA :) nothing special

  • thanks a bunch from posting this video. I was able to find a backlight display from winstar (p/n WH1601A-YYH-JTK) 16 caracters and 1 line with back light. cost R$20,00 - US$ 11,10 each. as mentioned by others bellow its necessary to put a 1 to 3 mm foam among display and front cover, specially to repair a Multi 3100 unit due to ribbon lenght (in the middle sometimes lack of pressure). mi multi 3100 and wind 3100 are functional again. Porto alegre - Brazil

  • Yes that works. But how to do this repairon an Navman 3150 Wind instrument. There are the contacts on the PCB and from the LCD not on the same place. Does anyone have suggestions for that situation? h.groeneveld2@chello.nl
