WHAT IF THOUGHT: In Paper Mario 3DS Elder Princess Shroob and her army come back, BUT IN A PAPER MARIO GAME? Yes. As for Mario and Luigi RPG 4, they use an old enemy from the Paper Mario series like Beldam or Dimentio or something.
Actually I doubt they would mix up the series but it would be something new. I'd go with the Midbus idea for Mario & Luigi 4, or maybe #5. As for Paper Mario 3DS I think they would be going with a new idea entirely, or putting in Bowser. (Until someone takes over?)

@dekaidoku I know this comment is a lil old, but sadly we won't be seeing him, mallow or any other of the non nintendo characters ever again in a nintendo game. Because square enix (makers of the super mario rpg for snes) took the rights to the characters when they left Nintendo for sony (they were fed up with using cartridges), for some dumb ass reason seeing they would never use the characters again. But Geno has made a cameo on the slot machines in mario & luigi superstar saga.

Wait....You hit the big button with the hammer......it dethaws the Shrrobs right in front....if it raises the temperature of the room......then the other Shroobs will get out, and presumably take over Bowser's Castle. I doubt this will be the premise of the next game, but it could be a sidequest for a special move or item.
