This is a short lick for blues harp to use as a starting point for improvisation. I'm using a Hohner Special 20 in the key of C played in 2nd position (cross harp style). For more info about playing cross harp, check out my dvd "Dynamic Blues Harp" available on my website.

Here's how I am playing it: hole 1D, 2B, 2D, 3D with a scoop or bend into the draw 3, 2D. That's it. 6 notes to blues harp freedom!
Have fun with it and make some videos using it and attach to this video. That would be fun to watch and listen!

  • I find it way easier to 3B instead of the last 2D. Is there a significant difference sound-wise or can I keep going the way I think is easier to use?

  • I agree with Mick, the 2 draw is way better sounding than 3 blow. It has more of a muscular sound.

There are times to play the 3 blow but if you can, use the 2 draw and it is also easier to shape the sound with a pre bend and vibrato.

    thanks! Reso

  • it's Bend time! Fuck Yeah, thanks, i luv that, tarararara........

  • thank you! nice lick!

  • Thank you for the description of the 3D bend as a "scoop"! That term really got my bend sounding bluesy for the first time.

  • an alternative to the last draw 2 would be blow 3 as it is the same note and wont leave you so breathless using three draws in a row.
