This is the second of two videos that comprise part three of the 1984 Daytona 500. This race, run on February 19, 1984, is one of the truly forgotten jewels in the history of NASCAR. In fact, I consider this race, the 26th running of the Daytona 500, to be the greatest of all the Daytona 500s. It might not have had the most memorable moments, but from a pure competition standpoint, as far as the greatest drivers and teams in the history of the sport, and the all-day competition between the finest in the sport's history at their peaks, this ranks to me as the greatest Daytona 500 of all time.

This is the second half of the third part of the 1984 Daytona 500. Due to it's length, this portion of the 1984 Daytona 500 broadcast had to be split into two parts, due to YouTube's 15 minute time limit. The total time of this segment is 15 and a half minutes, so it had to be split into two parts. In this video, 1972 Daytona 500 winner A.J. Foyt runs into trouble with his car's handling that knocks him out of the race just past the 100-mile mark while Cale Yarborough and Bobby Allison battle for the lead, leapfrogging each other, while Buddy Baker, driving the #21 Wood Brothers car, Neil Bonnett in Junior Johnson's #12 car, and Terry Labonte have the best seats for the battle. And Canadian Trevor Boys, driving James Hylton's #48 car, falls out with engine problems on the 21st lap.

NOTES: At the end of this video, Ken Squier mentions that A.J. Foyt dominated the most of any Daytona 500 winner, when he led 167 of the 200 laps in the 1972 race, including the last 120 (he didn't mention that). Obviously Squier forgot about Richard Petty's utter domination of the 1964 race, in which Petty led 184 of the 200 laps, including the last 149. Heck, even Fireball Roberts led more laps in the 1961 race than Foyt led in 1972, as Roberts led 170 laps (including the last 145 he ran in that race), but fell out with 13 laps left.

All credits go to SPEED, NASCAR, and CBS Sports, who originally broadcast this race on February 19, 1984.

That's not very lilely, considering the thousands of videos of race footage on YouTube. I'm more concerned about the NFL Films stuff on my channel than I am about the classic NASCAR or Indy 500 races on my channel, as none of that stuff has been taken off any YouTube channels that I know of, while NFL Films is almost constantly taking things off.

  • @cjs3872 I understand, but good luck explaining that to speed or NASCAR if they ever wanted to take it down.

No infringement is intended with any video I upload. That's why there's a disclaimer on the top of the info box and credits on the bottom of the info box on EVERY video of a sports event, sports film, or animated series I upload now, or in the future.

  • No copyright intended, haha. ya.
