  • @noahf67: Back then, video tape recording of tv shows was very different. Each studio had a limited number of (expensive) video tape camera's, and each show had a limited amount of time (per day) in which to use them. On top of that, editing was expensive as well. Those two facts combined, resulted in the "live" impression that the early shows had. With those things in mind, it wouldn't be surprising for ABC to have reused those old tapes for other shows or episodes, in order to cut costs.

  • @sierria64 That is harsh. AMC is a part of daytime history, and NOTHING, not even a stupid talk show can replace it. Susan Lucci (Erica) IS AMC, and has been on AMC since its debut. The role of Erica Kane was supposed to be temporary, yet she defined the ultimate diva, and in 1999, won her first daytime Emmy after 19 nominations. I get tears in my eyes when I watch the clip when she won.

To say they are old and worn out is an insult. It's call "aging gracefully".

  • Hey, wasn't this show produced in color from the outset..? It was only 1970. I never understood why ABC never had any color tape saved from those episodes. All the flashbacks are b&w or kinescope.

  • Hugh Franklin (Dr. Tyler) was the husband of Madeline L'Engle, the famous author who wrote the award-winning novel "A Wrinkle in Time." He had been a Shakespearean actor and had appeared in many successful Broadway productions. In his later years, he wanted a "day job" so Agnes Nixon, the show's creator, hired him.

Ruth Warrick, who played his wife Phoebe, was also very successful on Broadway and appeared in "Citizen Kane" playing the role of Charles Foster Kane's (Orson Wells) first wife.
