Treasurer Curtis Loftis' call for moving Budget and Control Board meetings to a large venue has just been granted by the full board.
The next scheduled meeting of the Board will now be in Room 101 of the Blatt Building at the SC Statehouse Complex on February 8 at 9:30 a.m. The new venue can seat up to 150 people and Board Members will be heard through the room's audio system. Treasurer Loftis serves as the Vice Chairman of the Board which has authority over many of the important and core functions of state government.
Prior to the move, Board Meetings were held in a Governor's Conference Room, with no public seating. As a leader in promoting transparency and open government, Treasurer Loftis applauded the move.
"This is a great day for open and transparent government," Treasurer Loftis said. "The Budget and Control Board is one of the most powerful agencies in the state and it is only right that taxpayers can see the process of how their money is being spent. I thank the Board Members for considering and granting my request made back in November to hold meetings in a venue large enough to accommodate citizens, not just political insiders."
