The fighting prowess of this division cannot be disputed but I think that the French probably remember them more for the massacres at Tulle and Orandour-sur Glane....wiping out whole villages of civilians in the name or partisan reprisals. Nice

@jpkmac05 Also, this division held so much partisans attack. Legally, an ocupant could be take hostage or take reprisals to stop the terrorism of irregulars bands, after the capitulation of the occupied country.

Sadly Partisan/Guirella tactics will always draw civilians into conflicts and eventually massacres. Remember the pink town massacre in Vietnam? Using civilians as human shields to hide amongst is just asking for trouble. However commanders always need to careful not to get into such a trap and 'recruit for the enemy' with such massacres.
