It's really not that complicated: Muslim civilization had it's golden age almost a thousand years ago. It closed itself off during the Ottoman empire and fell behind the West eventually becoming the third world without incident. The discovery of oil led to the subjugation by the west of the tattered remains of Muslim civilization leading to increasingly squalid conditions.

Irshad Manji is probably one of the greatest humans to ever live. Islam will change for the better because of her. Her beliefs are a testament to her life hitherto.

Islam will not change. Perhaps you can modify the behavior of some Muslims, but that is as far as you are going to get. Her Father was not a 'good' Muslim (her words), so her image of Islam may or may not be accurate. He was a violent man who did not practice Islam (her words). What an amazing brave woman! She is one of a handful of people who takes on this potitical religion and can make a scholarly argument. As I write you now with my headphones on in the mid-east , Ican still hear at east 5 different Imans from different mosques screaming their scholarly argument to kill destroyy and revenge "the West" Also known as anyone who disagrees with them. Muslim or not. My Arab neihbors are held hostage to this -they must agree or be ostrisized.
