my 2001 Silverado 2500HD 6.0L - i bought glasspacks from Summit for $20 each after my Dynomax muffler crapped out. A (very) cheap fix, but i kinda like the 60's musclecar sound it has now

  • @YesToMichael That tick is common. I had an 02 HD with the 6.0& it did it till she was warmed up. I ran penzoil platinum& rislone engine treatment. Never gave me an ounce of motor trouble! Great truck when I had her!! So, don't worry bout that tick. Just let her warm up first. What I always did.

  • @plmichal32 That ticking sound is common in those year's HD's. I had a 2002 HD silverado with the 6.0& it ticked like that until it was warm. Never had an ounce of engine trouble with her. I also ran Penzoil Platinum& rislone engine treatment in her. So don't worry bout that motor. Just give it ample time to warm up. I never drove mine cold.

  • the ticking your talkin about is just your lifters ticking then when the engine warms up it quits because the oil is thinner!! i had a 5.3 a 5.7 and a 6.0 they've all done

  • The noise you are hearing can also be that the O-ring in the oil pump went out and is causing the oil to drain back down when the vehicle is shut off. That's what was wrong with mine. Does it get a little quiter after it runs for a bit? If so it's because the oil pump takes a bit to build the pressure back up in the lines and when it's shut off the busted O-ring let's the oil drain back down. Just a suggestion.

  • @YesToMichael Yah that does the same thing on my 6.0. It is just the valves knocking when its cold. Its been doin that since 60,000 miles and its got 110,000 now so its really nothing

  • according to everyone i've heard from, piston-slap is quite common and isn't a serious problem. all the people who have the same ticking in their engine have gone on to exceed 100, 200, 300,000 miles... so they say. no idea about repairs, my warranty is LONG gone lol. thanks for the comment!

  • I have an '03 2500HD with piston slap. Warranty expired. How much is repair? Anyone give my a rough estimate. Btw, truck sounds amazing.

  • Mine had a few things go wrong with it. Warranty covered the piston slap issue though.

  • uh oh... mine has been making that noise for awhile now, but it goes away once the engine is warmed up. what happened with your truck?

  • x2, when my 05 did it a piston was fucked up
