Lintflas, as a British person (and a Welsh person) I have to say it's not a matter of common knowledge. I've been all over Germany on holiday and each time have found the German people to be friendly, funny, welcoming, and prepared to go out of their way to make me welcome and show something of their country. I love Germany, and the German people, and only wish I could have a beer with you to say danke.
