Scenario training. Shredding against random attacks. Bit of verbal aggression, unable to diffuse. For the sake of training we generally didnt pre-empt, although would have in reality for some of the scenarios.

Just remember, you can hit first as well. And you shouldn't let someone just walk into your space and push or smack you before you "switch on."
In a live situation, that first punch might lay you out.
I'd recommend chacking out some of Geoff Thompson's work on "The Fence."
