There's a stunning twist to the sudden rise in teen pregnancies at Gloucester High School. 17 students there are expecting and, according to a published report, most of them became that way on purpose.

Time Magazine is reporting that nearly half of the girls confessed to making a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together. None of the girls is older than 16.

Principal Joseph Sullivan said that wasn't all that was shocking.

"We found out one of the fathers is a 24-year-old homeless guy," he told Time.

Last month, two top officials at the high school's health center resigned in a fight over contraceptives distribution.

Medical Director Dr. Brian Orr and chief nurse practitioner Kim Daly support confidentially giving contraceptives to students. They were outraged about resistance from Addison Gilbert Hospital, which administers the state public health grant that funds the school clinic.

Normally, the school has about four pregnancies per school year.

According to Time, school officials started looking into the spike in pregnancies after an unusual number of girls came to the school clinic for pregnancy tests. Some came by several times.

"Some girls seemed more upset when they weren't pregnant than when they were," Sullivan told the magazine.

The pregnant girls and their parents turned down requests to be interviewed.

A recent graduate who had a baby during her freshman year told Time she knows why the girls wanted to get pregnant.

"They're so excited to finally have someone to love them unconditionally," Amanda Ireland, 18, said. "I try to explain it's hard to feel loved when an infant is screaming to be fed at 3 a.m.

Seriously, whats the difference ith a teen getting pregnant unexpectedly and an adult getting pregnant unexpectedly? About a hundred years ago it was exected for girls to have babies and marry in their teen years. It just so happens that people are aging slower and living longer. Society just wants kids to stay young for a lot longer and they also can't tolerate to see that teens are more closer to adulthood than childhood.

  • Guys I've made a video above about the cause of teenage pregnancies. Having had my son when I was 19 I knew exactly why I was in the situation I was in. It certainly wasn't a complete accident, there were a few issues in my life that I felt I couldn't escape from. Anyway my son is now 3 and I'm a BA Accounting and Finance student at the University of West London. We had an exam the other day and I ranked 2nd out of a class of 133 pupils. I just hate the stereotype!

  • The problem is most of these girls probably have no idea what they're getting themselves into. I was adopted because my mother didn't want me. It happened because she decided it was safe to have unprotected sex. If there is anything that Pro-Life groups should be preaching, it's "if you don't want to get pregnant use protection."

  • Ain't Pro-life groups such a great organization? Teaching our girls/women how wonderful it is to get pregnant and each fetus is so precious. By the rate pro-life is going 2015 we should be quadruplicated in the population department with not enough jobs to go around and about 99.9% of the people on government aid.So by means let's keep supporting Pro-life ways of thinking on how precious pregnancy is.
