you are too humble. this sounds sweet and deep. and i thought i was the only one that loves to dub with this kind of setup. nothing compares to real time dub mixing, and that's why pc daws are usually boring for us magical mystic mixers. :)

Very nice! I started on Cakewalk Pro, moved to Cubase, then Reaper... Now I'm thinking about investing in hardware. Software costs very little, hardware costs a lot. This video is swaying an otherwise balanced stance!

I can't wait to get my 238 fixed!!! This sounds amazing!!! So much depth!!! It's clean too!!! I always did like the marriage of actual analog recording and dumping to digital!!!

very cool. I have been collecting the gear myself and I mix live as a hobby. I respect the dub mixers (scientist, lee scratch, king jammy, tubby, etc.) i hope this art form doesn't die. You should make a documentary of the whole process. I have yet to see one that doesn't focus on the mixer himself. One is needed on the process and the vibe. Please tell us what camera you used for this. cheers.

Looks like ebay, craigslist and local pawnshops in your area got a savage workout...
Sorry to all of you who use Pro Tools, Cakewalk, GarageBand, or Kristal Audio Media.
ANALOG LIVES! And this recording is a prime example. Great recording!

Hey, thanks much for the kind words -- nice to know my efforts are appreciated by other analog devotee's. Yeah, I do enjoy tape and outboard gear to be sure......nothing can take the place of actual knob twiddling, but I must admit I do make good use of Adobe Audition.....if only for a 2 track mixdown after the analog path -- just handy for posting, etc. Occasionally I will mix in Audition, also, but still prefer the sound of mixing out of the box. Mixing "in the box" often sounds 2 dimensional.

I liked how you skipped over the Behriniger patch bay like that lmao

Ha....didn't notice that before, but maybe you're right. Actually, say what you want about Behringer stuff.....sure the build quality is kinda disposable, but circuit-wise I think they can hold their own ok. While I might not necessarily buy a Behringer mic pre, their patch bays are pretty decent.

hey how do you like the sound of the ART VLA compressors? do you have the first or II version. did you upgrade the tubes inside?
thanks

1'st version... and it's my go-to compressor for almost everything. Works well single channel (mono acoustic guitar or bass) or as a "mastering" stereo leveler. Very transparent, even while using significant limiting. Love the tube makeup gain stage -- very tubey, and gives the mix a nice 3d feel. Lots of overused buzz words here, I know...curious about the 2'nd version as the attack and release controls are variable, as opposed to the earlier Pro VLA, where you just have a fast/slow button.
