@goblinob Re-read what I wrote. I am imparting advice that has worked for me, that placing the thumb in a specific place on the neck has improved MY playing. Not that an alternative method is useless.

Hey man, that's pretty sweet! I do have some advice for your cousin though, and it's to get his thumb on the centre of the back of the neck when he plays, especially on lead parts. After practice, it gives your fingers so much more versatility and he'll fly on the neck faster than he does already!
