  • Rolland Garros was part of the ATP Tour.

  • If I remember correctly, it was because of legal conflicts between the ATP, which Connors refused to join, and the WTT. He had signed with World Team Tennis instead (probably an error on his part).

    Probably he wanted to be too independent, too individualistic.

  • Why was he banned in 74?

  • The funniest thing I ever saw with these two was at the '82 US Open, which Connors eventually won and beat Nastase along the way. Nastast got mad at one official after a point and said, "You look at me like that again I kill you!" Connors tried to serve after that and broke down laughing. This was after Connors cleaned up his image.

  • They are both showmen. Too bad Connors was banned from the French in 1974. He might have won the Grand Slam that year.
