  • i was there when the F 86 went down when the pilot came from the inside loop i guess he may block out oe miscalculated the recovery, did the pilot eject?

  • @solomonpilot767 - Nope - they pulled him alive from the wreckage. A segment of the old CBS TV show Rescue 911 was built around the accident and his medical care.

  • I'd like to know if this was a stabilator failure, because from the pitch at impact, it looks like he seriously over correcting, and that doesn't sound like a fighter pilot to me. I don't know much about the crash, but if I had to venture a guess, I'd say either stabilator failure or some kind of engine or engine responce failure. It almost looks like he couldn't get the engine to develop enough power. Either way that is one though pilot to walk away from that.

  • @jettechpilot - Oh, he lived but did not walk away. He was very seriously injured.

  • How did that not turn into a ball of flames?

  • if your number...i.e.energy is not right it wont work...ask bob hoover...the best at these kind of tricks

  • hey americans...F/A 18 Hornet is not made for "making Pugachovliev's Cobra" maneuver...:)

...Su-27 is right plane for doing that...

  • @jettechpilot no it was a pilot error. and he didnt walk away from it. he had broken for arm broken ribs 3 broken back vertebrae. he was in pretty bad shape. he didnt calculate the height correctly

  • I was there - will NEVER forget it. He hit FULL burner when he knew he was in trouble- deafening sound- and then the crowd - DEAD silent. Then sirens, and people mumbling in crowd- I "think" he crashed. I was like- NO SH T, that was NOT part of the "show" folks that was a CRASH. He hit so hard - broke both his ankles on the peddles, collapdes a lung, and despite being military "Strapped in" - he went forward and had his face/helmet crushed into the instrument panel. Lived to talk about it!

  • I love it how every1 is just like chillin and bored, then suddenly a crash and people are up in a second.

  • @aerospacenews His legs were badly shattered from impact from what I remember.

  • Trippy, i was at this event too, far too many years ago !! If i recall the pilot ended up with a collapsed lung too, amongst other wounds..
