McCain suspends his campaign to deal with financial crisis

In a statement on September 24th, John McCain declared that he was suspending his political campaign in order to go to DC to help craft a solution for the financial crisis. He invited Sen. Obama to join him to help create a bipartisan solution to show that Washington can still work to solve America's problems.

Rather than suspend campaigns, it would make more sense to make economic policy the topic of Friday's debate.

Then McCain and Obama can give their perspectives on the crisis and outline their separate strategies for addressing it.

That kind of debate between future presidents could provide guidance for congressional action.

It would also help the American voters decide which candicate is best qualified to lead.

McCain who confesses he has no idea about the economy. 1 week before this news release said "the economy is fundamentally sound" 1 week later says "where in economic crisis" & against all rational reason decides to "try" and suspend the debate. Even his own administration was saying there was nothing he could do.. it was a publicity stunt and a stupid one at that he didnt even leave for Washington for 22 hours after doing several interviews. McCain is a nutjob and FOX NEWS is soapbox journalism

No, not a chance. The "suspended campaign" is nothing in reality, since McCain's proposed trip to Washington (in combination with the debate cancellation) is clearly a desparate campaigning move, nothing more. Obama was ready for the joint-statement, which they've now made, AND maintaining the debates so the American people can actually see and hear about some of the most imporatnt matters facing America right now. McCain's ploy isn't highly regarded by anyone, even GOP pundits.

10 days ago mccain said the fundamentals of the economy were strong.....and yesterday he said its a '9-11 financial crisis'....another over-reaction by mccain as he suspends his campaign.....and the gop calls obama a flip-flopper??....mccain couldnt find his as* with his own 2 ghands.

Are you joking? I don't know where your from, but here monthly rent is generally more than the a monthly mortgage payment. Around here a family of say 5 or 6 is way better off buying than renting.

I'm sure Obama had the same plans, but McCain jumped on it first to make it look like he had to talk Obama into joining him. I agree with sosouthernsofreaky. This is a political stunt. He hasn't suspended his campaign, this is part of his campaign.
