Brown NOTE, not brown noise. Brown noise is noise generated by a random walk sequence.

It has equal power in all octaves and sounds to the human ear as noise with equal strength at all pitches.

It's named after Robert Brown who noticed how pollen on the surface of water seemed to jiggle about randomly in a process known as "random walk".
