Celebrating the birth of the Prophet is indeed a biddah. However, it is a biddah hasana and it is something that is not haram to engage in if the actions practiced are not haram (reciting Quran, reading the nasheed are all fine). Only the Wahhabis do not allow it because they are misguided.

Being from this region in ethiopia and a muslim and i speak for all ethiopian muslims that in mawlid, we do not practice nor condone the worship of the prophet muhammed. Allah is only deserving of worship.

Ethiopia having many ties with the spread of Islam ever since the prophet times have had this traditional celebration pass down for countless generations and remains just as a celebration for prophet muhammed.

Mawlid doesn't go against the Qur'an or Sunnah. Every Bid'ah doesn't belong in Hell. Did you know the dots in the Qur'an were not present at the time of the Prophet? Do you say that belong in Hell?

The only thing the prophet (saw) used to do and recommend to do in "celebration" of his birthday is to fast on Mondays. InshaAllah we as muslims can just stick to doing this instead adding to the deen.

Dear cabdi81, Hararis got their share of abuse from this government so don't blame them. I'm Arab but i know a lot of Somalis and i think that Ethiopia occupying and killing you is no big deal because you usually do that yourselves. When people show no mercy to their own brothers for whatever reasons they end up with foreign shoes on their face. No nation is mighty !
