This is a short excerpt from the video documentary: "Our Children's Future in Our Hands", written and directed by Anatole Kononewsky. Anatole was Senior Research Officer at the Australian Institute of Criminology back in the mid 1970's. At the time, he was commissioned by the federal Attorney General to produce a report on the" Costs of Criminal Justice", which received national media coverage. Anatole discovered, as far back as then, substantive research that clearly showed prisons have never being a deterrent to crime. The reality is, love is the most important thing, in and out of prison. The benefits to society of rehabilitating prisoners is significant, instead we pay huge amounts of taxpayer money to extract revenge and punishment in barbaric conditions that perpetuates a vicious cycle of retaliation back on society. This does not make any sense.
