McCartney has a too rich back catalogue to say this is one of his best songs. However it is one of his best songs of this genre, i.e. a fun song with humorous lyrics, like Yellow Submarine. It is brilliant and a top video too.

I just LOVE this song.... But it seem that very few people does too, according to what i read in the books or in the forums.

@jeb12blur Paul has written so many songs. I hate a couple of them too. Songs like "Biker like an icon" or "peace in the neighburhood" are among the worst songs i`ve ever heard in my life. But Paul has also written one of the best songs i`ve heard in my life too. Paul can write great lyrics and he`s proved it many times. But Paul is not a poet, he`s a tunesmith. Bob Dylan writes better lyrics than Paul, but Paul writes better melodies than Dylan. Dylan`s melodies doesn`t come close to Paul..

@Yellyist And no, I don't think I hate vaudeville, in fact I love "When I'm 64" (and even "Honey Pie.") My problem isn't with Paul's music as I'm a huge fan. My problem is the unbelievalbly daft lyric for "Average Person" and many post Beatles songs. For someone with so much talent, he seems to coast when it comes to words. And Lennon wasn't Dylan either, true, but Paul seemed to try harder for John.

@Yellyist Yes, "Hello, Goodbye" is a great track--much like I said for this one in my original comment--ace production, great arrangement, and unbelievable melody--but a very simple lyric. At least "Hello, Goodbye" isn't insultingly bad like "Average Person." Every track doesn't have to be genius Bob Dyland lyric ("Be-Bop-A-Lula" is a classic) but "Average Person" is mindnumbingly bad and I remember thinking that when I bought the album at 13. And I'm no genius.

@jeb12blur Hello Goodbye is ranked as a classic. I think Hello Goodbye is a great track. Great arrangment, and a wonderful melody! Honey Pie is a vaudeville piece. Paul`s dad used to play vaudeville tunes for him when he was a kid, and he wrote a couple of vaudeville tunes for the beatles. I think they`re great. I guess you don`t like vaudeville songs.

@Yellyist Paul could be great when his head wasn't swimming in pot smoke and he actually tried to reveal something about himself (see also "Maybe I'm Amazed" and "Here Today.") Most of the time he settled for sing-songy nonsense like "Hello,Goodbye," "Honey Pie", and almost everything written after he had Lennon pushing him towards something better. Don't get me wrong, those songs you mentioned definitely fit in the former catagory. His solo work is disappointing for garbage like this.
