  • @Jaruco03 However, their real value of wages, in terms of goods, plummets drastically. International protectionism, while less dramatic as interregional or interpersonal protectionism, has the same effect. Foreigners will invest and buy less from the US, resulting in less export and less employment.

I don't want to sound like a prick, but this is the rationale behind my viewpoint. Jaruco, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. :)

  • @Jaruco03 It's a myth that many Chinese are paid in rice. I've never heard such a thing while living in China. I agree with you though that we need common sense. However, forcing American companies to produce in US is (trade) protectionism. Suppose that Jones has a farm and Smith works for him. Jones exhorts Smith to 'buy Jones' and to 'keep the money at home'. To make sure that their aim is accomplished, Jones levies a 1000% tariff on imports from abroad. The problem of unemployment is solved.

  • @Chhaylin "Americans have to accept lower wages to attracts more businesses"???? How can you compete with Chinese slave labor? Do you know that a big part of Chinese employees are paid in RICE? How are you going to compete against that? What we need to do is to stop buying stuff made in china and force the American companies to realize that outsourcing our jobs is an act of treason against the land that help you to succeed. We don't need protectionism we need common sense

  • Fuck Walmart.

  • @phoenixzion82 Human rights... sound so noble. Maybe you should read some history on US and their violations of 'human rights'. You're only looking at one side of the story; indeed most goods are made in China. BUT it leads to lower prices for Americans. If you want to solve the problem, you don't do this by protectionism. Americans have to accept lower wages so it attracts more businesses. Not just that, Americans are encouraged to spend and not to save; which is wrong as well...

  • Search for "The High Cost of Low Price" it's a documentary that explains the horrible things that come from Wal-Mart.

  • Of course it's "sourced locally". It's all made there.

That's what we call a "trade deficit".

  • @Chhaylin Protectionism? Which is worse? backing a country with a horrible history of human rights violations? Welcome to the burger flipping economy. People get all excited by saving 5 cents and don't realize that they enabling slave labor.

  • Wal-Mart's manufacturers are basically telling you..."Hey I know you like getting paid and all..but we would rather pay you 5 dollars a day..these people in china were sold out by their government to provide slave labor."

  • @iJJ1694 Yeah but 95% of Wal-Mart's good are made in China. They do it on purpose in lieu of giving you a deal.
