A fairly chilly day, "cold start" of the car. No sound. Black, blue and white smoke. We don't tend to get much sub zero weather, or snow, where I live, so I doubt there will ever be any videos of real cold starts as I've seen posted by many people.
If I fire her up when shes already warm, there is no blue smoke.
She only smokes like that when cold.
I do not think it engine oil leaking in to the piston chambers. That causes blue smoke constantly, even when warm.
Judging by the rough feel of the engine when its smoking like that, I'm guessing that my glow plugs aren't all working, and that whats coming in to the combustion chamber is not warm enough to ignite.
Having had someone elses face down there while I revved it to 3500 RPM, I can confirm that it has a very dirty exhaust... they looked like they had been down a coal mine :-)
