In GUTHRIE SWIMS THE LAKE we meet the Irish theatre director Sir Tyrone Guthrie (1900-1971) standing knee-deep in Lake Annaghmakerrig. With water as his reflective stage, it becomes apparent he has not left the theatre behind - as he pulls from the lake a series of objects from Shakespeare's theatre. Directed by Miles Lowry and featuring performer David Ferguson -- both from Canada's Suddenly Dance Theatre. Produced by Suddenly Media Productions.
As seen through contemporary dance, this short film explores Guthrie's enduring obsession with the Bard's watery metaphors. Using text by William Shakespeare, the work incorporates Miles Lowry's music, produced by Joanna Hood (member of Victoria's Lafayette String Quartet & New York's Loma Mar Quartet) with her viola & arrangement.
GUTHRIE SWIMS THE LAKE was produced with a grant awarded by CTV's Bravo!FACT (Foundation to Assist Canadian
Talent) www.bravofact.com; with participation from The British Columbia Arts Council; and The Capital Regional District Arts Development.
Filmed in Co. Monaghan, Ireland and Victoria, BC Canada
